Highlands Coffee was founded in 1998 by David Thai and Julie LaRochelle. In 1998 David achieved a "first" by being the initial Viet Kieu (overseas Vietnamese) to register a private Vietnamese company.
The First Highlands Coffee outlet opened in 2002 at the Metropolitan building in Ho Chi Minh City, there are now over 50 throughout the country with many more on their way.
